Origin & Symbolism
Blue Star Service Flags: During World War I, families displayed flags with blue stars for each member serving in the armed forces.
Gold Star: If a service member died in service, the blue star was replaced with a gold star, symbolizing pride in their sacrifice and informing the community of their loss.
